COVE · LEGAL

Terms of Service.

The rules for using Cove's bookstore, reading tools, and community features.

Effective date: October 15, 2026

Terms of ServicePrivacy PolicyCopyright & DMCAContact Cove

Agreement and eligibility

These Terms govern access to the Cove website, reader, audiobook player, library, social features, and related digital services (together, “Cove”). By creating an account or using Cove, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the service.

Individuals under 13 may not open a Cove account. If you are a minor where you live, you should use Cove only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian where required. We may restrict features or access where law requires.

Your account and reading data

Provide accurate sign-up information, verify an email address when asked, protect your credentials, and notify us through the contact form below if you suspect account misuse. Do not share account access, impersonate another person, or attempt to circumvent security controls.

Your personal library, reading locations, bookmarks, highlights, notes, saved definitions, and reading statistics are associated with your account. You may export supported information and request account deletion using the account controls, subject to applicable legal retention requirements. Public community contributions and content intentionally shared with others are different from private reading records.

Ebooks, audiobooks, and territorial rights

Cove includes free public-domain works, third-party materials, and, where enabled, commercial books or audiobooks. Rights can differ by country, edition, format, and licensing arrangement. A work available in the United States is not necessarily in the public domain elsewhere. You are responsible for using content only where you have a lawful right to do so.

Cove's software and original interface remain protected. For licensed commercial content, purchasing or obtaining access provides the limited personal reading or listening rights shown for that edition; it does not transfer copyright. Do not strip rights controls, redistribute restricted files, or use Cove to infringe anyone's rights.

Soundtrack recordings released under a Creative Commons license or public-domain dedication retain the permissions stated in their individual credits. Those permissions can include copying, redistribution, adaptation, and commercial reuse subject to that license. These terms do not reduce those permissions or add personal-use-only, noncommercial, or digital-rights-management restrictions to openly licensed recordings. Cove's software and interface are separate from the recording licenses.

Availability, prices, taxes, refunds, preorders, subscriptions, and entitlement duration (if offered) are governed by the terms shown at checkout and any applicable consumer-protection laws. Cove does not guarantee that a particular book, audio version, or publisher will remain available forever.

Your content and community conduct

You retain rights to the notes, reviews, annotations, and other original content you contribute. You grant Cove a limited license to store, transmit, display, and process that material solely to provide the features you request, including synchronization, backups, and content you explicitly publish or share. You are responsible for material you choose to make public.

Do not post unlawful, threatening, harassing, deceptive, or infringing content; distribute malware; scrape restricted data; abuse automation; or interfere with the safety and operation of the service. We may remove violating material, restrict functionality, or suspend accounts as reasonably needed to protect users and comply with law.

Availability and changes

Cove is evolving. We may modify features, correct metadata, maintain servers, or retire material. Offline files, synchronized locations, and personal notes may depend on device and network availability. We take reasonable measures to maintain service and protect data, but no online service can promise uninterrupted access or error-free storage. Back up important exported notes.

Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by law, Cove is provided without warranties beyond those expressly required by applicable law. Information about books, definitions, statistics, recommendations, and automatically produced audio/text alignments is informational and may be imperfect. Nothing here excludes liability, remedies, or consumer rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Termination and disputes

You may stop using Cove and request account deletion. We may restrict accounts for serious or repeated violations, fraud, security risks, or legal obligations. Rights and obligations that by nature should survive termination may continue as legally permitted. We encourage contacting us first to resolve concerns. These Terms do not require private arbitration or waive rights to seek lawful remedies.

Changes and contact

We will update the effective date when these Terms change and provide additional notice where required. For copyright questions, see our Copyright & DMCA page. For account, privacy, or legal concerns, use the contact form in our Privacy Policy.

Last updated: October 15, 2026. Substantive changes will be reflected here; material changes affecting existing users will receive appropriate notice.
